Teenage Wasteland

“What does it mean to be young?”

If I were to ask you that question, how would you answer?

What is a definite ‘image’ of youth? Its unending waves of motivation? Its spirit to take on anything that lies ahead?

Now before we get into details, let me give you a slight briefing of life when you get old.

Old people don’t vary much. Most of the time, they talk about money, business, illness and philosophy. They don’t do much hobby-related activity, mostly because they can’t. They don’t have the time and energy to do anything other than work. It’s only natural, they have to provide a roof over their family’s head.

They feel that time is going at a much faster rate, and fun is a rare, precious blessing from God. And when they look back to the old days, they will feel a bit of regret. Even though their younger days were well spent, they wish they can go back and do things they didn’t do.

But all of that is just nature running its course. When you look at it from a zoomed-out perspective, our younger days are just a ‘free roam’ level. We can freely decide to have fun or prepare for the coming waves of challenge. And when you’re an adult, life officially begins. You don’t have a choice, you have to face it head-on using the knowledge and skills you’ve gathered.

So that’s it. That is the meaning of youth. A short period of time to have the most fun and learn the most useful skills. It’s simple as that. Now it’s up to you to keep a balance of both.

If you don’t have fun, you will regret it when you grow up.

If you don’t prepare for your adult days, you will get DEMOLISHED by the challenges ahead.

So while your mind, spirit and body is in perfect condition, go out there with a bang. Try a lot of things, identify your hobby, build your personality, and raise a little hell.

‘Cause hey, it’s only Teenage Wasteland.
