Power, Control, and the Weight that Follows

Back when the first Spider-man movie came out, Uncle Ben had a good quote that anybody could remember.

With great power comes great responsibility.

The 2nd grader me could only enjoy the web-slinging parts of the movie, but that one sentence was tucked safely in the depths of my brain. It took me more than a decade to really understand the meaning behind it.

In my teenage years, I thought the quote was referring to 'being responsible in fighting crime and protecting the city.'

But in this present time, after I learned of new fancy words such as 'corruption' or 'exploit', and even experienced the slow, steady gain of power and the quick, painless process of losing it, I started to think more about the meaning of 'responsibility.'

A Friend - Hello and Goodbye

Since the beginning of time, life is all about encounters with new people. These encounters give us knowledge, from trivial to life-changing, emotions, such as happiness, relief, and even downright pissed off.

From what I gathered, I think it's safe to say encounters and all the good and bad things revolving around it, is 'something that made you.'

Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever.

Choices and Consequences

Huge thanks to friends for inspiring this 'article', and CD Projekt Red for developing the Witcher series, games based on a novel by Andrzej Sapkowski

Back in the day, we used to watch Saturday morning cartoons to entertain us. These cartoons were really fun and comfy to watch, and it usually depicts a rivalry or battle between good and evil. Heroes and villains will fight in exciting action scenes with gorgeous special effects, and the good guys will always win at the end.

Teenage Wasteland

“What does it mean to be young?”

If I were to ask you that question, how would you answer?

What is a definite ‘image’ of youth? Its unending waves of motivation? Its spirit to take on anything that lies ahead?

Now before we get into details, let me give you a slight briefing of life when you get old.

Normal

You are a normal person.

You live your life as a normal person would.

You spend your days doing normal activities. Go to college, study, eat, hang out with friends.

You don’t have any special skills to brag about, but enough to take on most obstacles that will come to you.

You’re not stupid, nor smart. You get average marks on tests. But with enough willpower, you can easily step up from where you’re standing.

You’re not quite popular. You have enough friends to get by, and a helping hand in times of need.

Your life is a straight line with minor bumps. You are guided by something or someone, like a train on its tracks.

When there’s something troubling you, you try to face it head on. Perhaps with a help from a friend. But sometimes, you’d just rather ignore it and run away.

You’d rather tell a lie than hurting someone’s feelings. You hide the fact, the truth from someone if it means that you’re saving them.

You grow from praise. You work hard to get that praise, which will turn into some kind of a fuel called ‘motivation’.

You enjoy living your life.

And you’re glad you’re normal.
